Updates
Energy Labelling on Alcoholic Beverages
15 August 2025
On August 13th, Food Standards Australia New Zealand published Amendment No. 241, which implements proposal P1059 - Energy Labelling on Alcoholic Beverages.
For manufacturers of alcoholic beverages, this starts the three-year transition phase during which they must update their labels to include the new mandatory information.
So, will this mean expensive analytical testing for all your products? In most cases, it won't.
Your existing knowledge of your product's ABV and residual sugar content can be combined with published data from The Australian Wine Research Institute and other sources to calculate the energy content of your product without additional lab analysis.
For guidance on this topic and how to present the information to properly comply with the new Standards, please contact us directly.
PEAL transition period ends today!
25 February 2024
It's now 36 months since FSANZ implemented Plain English Allergen Labelling requirements for all Australian food manufacturers, which means the transition period is now over.
If you make and sell food in Australia, whether it's cupcakes from your home baking business or a high-speed production line, you need to be aware of these requirements and ensure your product labels comply.
Perry Ingredients and Consulting has helped manufacturers update hundreds of labels over the last three years. If you've been avoiding tackling this project, now is the time. Reach out for a free consultation and explanation of the process.
FSANZ implements Plain English Allergen Labelling
26 February 2021
On February 25th, Food Standards Australia New Zealand published Amendment No. 197, which implements proposal P1044 - Plain English Allergen Labelling.
This marks the start of a three-year transition period during which food manufacturers must update their product labels to comply with the new standards.
Key components of the new regulations are:
- Required names (in plain English) that must be used for declaring allergens in food.
- The addition of a Summary Statement after the Ingredient List.
- The requirement to highlight allergens using bold text.
For many manufacturers, this means updating artwork and labels across their range. Putting a plan in place early can ensure new products comply from launch and minimise re-work and material write-offs.
Perry Ingredients & Consulting can help guide you and your team through this process. Reach out today.
